Focused on photovoltaics, solar thermal, and energy storage technologies, the event has established itself as the leading platform for professionals seeking the trends, technologies, and solutions transforming the sector, discovering new business opportunities, and building strategic connections within the energy industry.
Driven by the growth of renewable energy and increasing demand for more efficient and sustainable energy solutions, Intersolar Mexico will bring together manufacturers, distributors, developers, integrators, investors, and decision-makers in a space designed to foster strategic partnerships and accelerate projects that contribute to a more competitive, resilient, and sustainable energy system for Mexico.
The Intersolar Mexico International Conference will address the topics redefining the energy future of Mexico and the region through a high-level conference program developed by industry experts. Throughout its sessions, attendees will explore energy transition, technological innovation, energy storage, regulation, financing, and the integration of new solutions into the electricity system, providing a comprehensive perspective on the challenges and opportunities that will shape the sector's evolution in the years ahead.
As part of the activities leading up to this edition, the webinar "Electric Energy Storage Models in Mexico" brought together prominent voices from the sector, including Gilberto Sánchez, President of the National Association of Solar Energy (ANES); Paul Sánchez, US-MEX Fellow; and Yolanda Villegas, President of the Mexican Association for Storage, Electrification and Mobility (AMAEM).
During the session, the experts agreed that electric energy storage is emerging as one of the pillars of Mexico's energy transition by strengthening the reliability of the electricity system, enabling greater integration of renewable energy sources, and contributing to more efficient energy management in the face of sustained demand growth.
Beyond the expansion of solar and wind energy, the major challenge lies in ensuring that electricity is available precisely when it is needed. In this context, energy storage systems have become a strategic tool to strengthen grid reliability, address peak demand, and accelerate the integration of renewable energy into the national electricity system.
"Energy storage is currently one of the most important and strategic issues within Mexico's electricity system. Not because it represents a technology of the future, but because it is already here and has been validated both by this market and by international markets," emphasized Yolanda Villegas.
The specialist highlighted that storage will be a key component in advancing electromobility and transforming the national energy system.
"The redefinition of Mexico's legal framework surrounding energy storage will be essential to make both the energy transition and large-scale electromobility viable. This goes beyond a simple consumption trend and represents a complete and structural reconfiguration of the Mexican energy system," she stated.
For his part, Gilberto Sánchez noted that the inclusion of Energy Storage Systems (ESS) in the new Electricity Sector Law represents a fundamental step toward providing legal certainty to the sector and accelerating the development of new investment projects.
"Energy storage systems are already part of Mexico's electricity sector. Having a regulatory framework that provides certainty opens the door to accelerating investments, strengthening grid reliability, and promoting greater integration of renewable energy," commented Gilberto Sánchez.
Paul Sánchez also pointed out that batteries are playing an increasingly important role in reducing pressure on electricity networks and improving the operational stability of the system.
"Many data centers and large energy consumers are incorporating renewable systems and batteries to minimize their dependence on the grid, thereby reducing congestion as well as transmission and distribution challenges," explained Paul Sánchez.
Despite the opportunities, the specialists acknowledged that significant challenges remain. One of them is access to financing for storage projects aimed at end users, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises. While large-scale developments typically have access to capital, widespread adoption will require greater participation from the banking sector and specialized financing schemes.
Another concern is the global increase in the cost of technological components driven by the growing demand for infrastructure related to artificial intelligence, data centers, and electrification. This trend could affect the profitability of certain projects in the short term.
Nevertheless, the discussion led to a clear conclusion: energy storage will be one of the pillars upon which Mexico's electricity system of the coming decades will be built. Its ability to integrate renewable energy, strengthen grid reliability, address growing demand, and enable new business models positions it as a key technology for achieving the country's energy transition goals.
Intersolar Mexico 2026 will serve as a strategic meeting point for the stakeholders shaping the energy future of Mexico and Latin America, fostering dialogue, collaboration, and the adoption of solar technologies that will help accelerate the energy transition toward 2030.
Held alongside Aquatech Mexico, the event is expected to attract more than 10,000 professionals and feature the participation of over 400 national and international exhibiting companies, showcasing innovative solutions designed to address the industrial, commercial, and governmental needs of the region.
